Yaeba look?

What do beautiful teeth look like? Depends who you are asking. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

For example, Japanese women spend much money to make their teeth look like “tusks”. The procedure involves gluing permanent or temporary facets onto the canines, thus achieving a look that Europeans might characterise as a little “vampire”. A permanent adhesive artificial canine is called tsuke yaeba. That in fact means multi-layered or double tooth.

While European and American women spend vast amounts of money to have a perfect teeth alignment, which men consider attractive, Japanese women do quite the opposite. Japanese men like the new trend because this imperfect smile reminds them of a child’s smile. Natural yaeba look can be found in children during early tooth development, as a result of persisting milk teeth or too small a jaw. In view of the fact that the “child look” is very desirable in Japanese cultural tradition, the new trend is no surprise.

The popularity of this procedure in Japan is reflected by the fact that a girls’ band, which had their debut concert in Tokio last April, is called after it -  TYB48 (tsuke/yaeba48).

All changes of beauty trends have always had the same goal: pointing out a youthful look.
