History of our dental practice


The founder of the “A 1 Dental Studio” private practice is Prof. Dr. Ljubomir Šćepanović. He was born in Ljubovija near Loznica in 1937. He devoted his entire career to dental medicine. Initially, he started as a dental technician and retired as a full-time professor of the Medical Faculty in Priština.

Professor Ljubomir Šćepanović completed the Secondary School for Dental Technicians and graduated from the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Belgrade in 1963. He specialised in dental prosthetics at the Dental Prosthetics Clinic of the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Belgrade in 1972. He defended his M.Sc. thesis in 1975 and his Ph.D. thesis in 1980 in Belgrade. In the course of 1976, he continued his professional development at the Queen’s Mary Hospital in London, and in 1983, at the Clinic for Dental Prosthetics of the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Dusseldorf. He was invited to hold lectures to the students and professors of the Medical University of Nanning in the People’s Republic of China.

Professor Šćepanović was also invited to hold a series of lectures on the development of the dental science and profession, to medical staff and doctors in Tripoli and Benghazi, Libya. He was a teacher at the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Srbinje, the Republic of Srpska, for several years.

Prof. Dr. Ljubomir Šćepanović published over 50 scientific research papers in the field of dental prosthetics. He was a co-author of the university textbook “Total Dental Prosthesis: Technical Production”, as well as the book “Alterations of Oral Tissues by Dental Prostheses”.

Professor Šćepanović spent his entire professional career in Priština. He was the first trained dental technician in Kosovo and Metohija. Upon graduating from the Faculty of Dental Medicine, he began working as the third dentist in the entire Kosovo and Metohija.

At that time he was the director of the health centre and the head of the Dental Policlinic in Priština. Already in 1964 he initiated and worked on the opening of the Secondary School for Dental Technicians in Priština. He was among those who initiated the opening of the Department for Dental Medicine at the Medical Faculty in Priština, where he worked from the very beginning. Professor Šćepanović was the first head of the Department for Dental Medicine and the director of the Clinic for Dental Medicine of the Medical Faculty in Priština.

Professor Šćepanović was, among other things, the chairman of the Medical Faculty Council and the chairman of the University Council in Priština. He served three terms as the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Professor Šćepanović won numerous plaudits, including: the Great Plaque of the Serbian Medical Society for developing the health service in the Republic of Serbia, the November Award for developing the health sector in Kosovo and Metohija, the Vidovdan Charter for developing the scientific and academic thought in Serbia. He also received the Order of Labour with Silver Wreath, the Charter of the Priština Branch of the Serbian Medical Society on the occasion of the Eight Centuries of Hilandar, as well as the Hilandar Medical Codex.

Professor Šćepanović continued working in his private practice in Belgrade in 1999, together with son Miodrag.

He is married, father of two and grandfather of four. His children are also medical doctors.
