Dental grillz

You may love them or hate them, by the fact remains that grillz became a real hit. It is a type of metal jewellery worn over the teeth. They may be gilded, golden or platinum, even supplemented by precious stones. Their prices range from several hundred to several thousand dollars, depending on the metal and the number of teeth they cover. Most of them can be taken off, but some of them are permanently fixed to the teeth.

They appeared in 1980’s among hip-hoppers in New York. Once they were worn only by Chris Brown and Lil Wayne (whose grillz cost the incredible US $ 100.000). Owing to Nelly and his song “Grillz”, this teeth jewellery gained in popularity. Grillz were made famous by the singer Rihanna and the Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, and later by Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Justin Bieber and many others. Madonna also wore them recently, when the picture of her 24-diamond golden grillz was posted on Instagram. She wrote: “Don’t hate me, hate my grillz”.

However, as popular as it may be, wearing dental jewellery is connected with many oral diseases. Unless they are made and fixed well, grillz may cause dental pain, gums infection and even headache. The same is true of dental bridges and crowns; therefore, whatever you do, you should always consult your dentist first. Whether you wear your grillz as a status symbol or a form of your personal expression, you should primarily think of the health of your teeth.
